Large tiles in the garden: what to look out for
Large tiles give a garden calm and space. With these points in mind, your patio stays level in the long run too.

Large tiles are popular, and rightly so: fewer joints, a calmer look and a garden that seems bigger. A large format does need careful preparation, though.
A firm, level base
The bigger the tile, the quicker you notice when something isn’t level. A well filled and compacted base is therefore half the work.
A fall for the rainwater
A patio should slope slightly, away from the house or towards a drain. That way no water is left standing after a shower.
Edges and connections
A crisp edge along the border or up to the canopy finishes the whole thing off. Also think about the connection at the patio doors and any drains.
Combining with other materials
Large tiles go well with a decorative edge or a herringbone path. Lucas helps you choose what suits your garden.
